St Marylebone Parish Church is a place of active and engaged Christian witness, set at the very heart of central London. With a history stretching back nearly 900 years, we seek to offer God worship that has long been renowned for musical and liturgical excellence and to serve the diverse community in which we are set. As a Major Parish Church the Church of England recognises that St Marylebone is a place of “exceptional significance, has a role beyond that of a typical parish church and that we make a considerable civic, cultural and economic contribution to our community”.
The Rector of St Marylebone,
The Revd Canon Dr Stephen Evans, writes:

Here at St Marylebone, we are able to offer Spiritual Directors who are ready to listen and to reflect together with anyone who wishes to explore their Faith pilgrimage with another fellow traveller.
Meetings usually take place every month to six weeks.
"Christian Spirituality is the deep relationship that exists when the human spirit is grounded in God's spirit, 'the cultivation of a sensitive and rewarding relationship with eternal truth and love'." Rowan Williams
Traditionally, this ministry is known as ‘Spiritual Direction’.
Spiritual Direction is a regular meeting with another person with a view to enabling personal growth, fostering relationship with God, and growing in understanding of God’s ways, whether God seems close or distant. Ideally, Spiritual Direction offers a mutual sharing in the Spirit; a relationship of friendship in Christ; a walking together and seeking the way, whether we have a lively awareness of God’s goodness and joy in life, or all seems dark and God seems absent.
"A man that looks on glass,
On it may stay his eye;
or if he pleaseth, through it pass,
And then the heav'n espy."
- discern how and where God is in the work of the Director
- explore the ethics of good practice and standards
- provide a safe space for releasing feelings, holding and containing them
- gently challenge in the context of ongoing support and affirmation

Counselling and Psychotherapy can help us:
All our counsellors and psychotherapists are trained psychodynamically. This means that our approach is that current problems are often rooted in earlier difficulties. These difficulties need to be understood before we can fully grow beyond them. At the same time, we may need to find more creative ways of managing our thoughts and feelings and of relating to other people.
We offer one session per week for up to two years. Each session lasts 50 minutes and you would see the same person at the same time each week.
The counsellor will attend to whatever you bring, seeking to understand your feelings and to make sense of things which may be upsetting, problematic, or confusing. He/she will not offer advice.
Please complete the application form and return it to us with a cheque for the fee. We will then offer you an initial consultation which will be on a Tuesday at 10.30am or at 2.00pm.
Usually no longer than four weeks and often within a couple of weeks of your form being received. Please let us know if there are any dates you know you cannot attend.
The fee for the initial consultation is means related. As it is likely to last longer than a normal counselling session, the fee is calculated as follows: £60 if your income is less than £45,000 and £90 if your income is more than £45,000. For those in receipt of state benefits the fee is £25.
Fees for any weekly counselling sessions offered here are negotiated according to your means on a scale from £15 to £80 per session.
