The St Marylebone Cemetery Chapels

In the St Marylebone Cemetery and Crematorium, located in East Finchley, are two chapels. The first, designed by Barnet and Brick and built opened in 1854, is an Anglican Chapel and is, today, a Grade II listed chapel. The second is the Non-Conformist Chapel, which was also opened in 1854.

This site marks the deaths of soldiers from World War I and II. Within the cemetery, there are 75 Commonwealth service war burials from the First World War; most of these are in the War Graves plot, located in the cemetery’s northwest corner, which was set aside for military burials in 1916. There are also 79 war burials from the Second World War. A Screen Wall, found behind the Cross of Sacrifice, records the names of 20 casualties of the Second World War who were cremated at the St Marylebone Crematorium. Additionally, there are eight special memorials to eight servicemen of the First World War whose graves could not be marked by headstones.
