St Marylebone Slate Project 2021

Written by Iris.

Last month, the St Marylebone Changing Lives team completed carving the slate dedications of your loved ones! The slate dedication project is aimed to give people the opportunity to dedicate a slate on the new roof of the parish church to a loved one, a historical figure or anyone  who inspires them or they admire. Each dedication was individually engraved on separate Welsh slates by a member of the St Marylebone team or a volunteer, and the messages were recorded in our database – meaning they can be accessed for .

We were so pleased in seeing everyone’s heart-warming dedications that were kindly submitted and the generous donations that came alongside them and we are looking forward to seeing them on the new roof. In particular, we were glad to include the dedications made by young people in nearby schools and youth groups, and young church. It was incredibly inspiring to experience the gratitude that we display towards one another and it is especially pleasing to know that we will be remined of that everyday when we are working under the roof. As well as this, it was surprising to see the variety of dedications and all the kinds of people who were appreciated.

A huge appreciation goes out to all those who donated a slate, and those who donated extra funding to support the communication and education factor of the project. Your donations will make a lasting impact on the church and will hopefully remove us from the Historic England’s buildings at risk register.
