– Porphyria’s Lover and a Broadsheet Execution Ballot by Dr Britta Martens, University of West of England

Dr. Britta Martens has been working at the University of the West of England (UWE) since 2002, teaching across the English Literature syllabus. Her research focuses on Victorian literature, with a particular interest in Robert Browning. Her doctoral thesis examined Browning’s poems in propria persona. She has continued to explore his work in subsequent publications, including her books Browning, Victorian Poetics and the Romantic Legacy: Challenging the Personal Voice (2011) and The Poetry of Robert Browning (2016), as well as a special issue of Victorian Poetry (Winter 2012), which she co-edited with Mary Ellis Gibson.
She is currently working on a critical edition of Prince Hohenstiel-Schwangau and Fifine at the Fair for The Poetical Works of Robert Browning, to be published by Oxford University Press.
