Poetry Without Words
A Concert by Duo Lamorniana
Centrepiece of our little concert are excerpts from Robert Schumann’s epic song cycle “Dichterliebe”, which must be one of the most poetic cycles ever written, with music that is so poetic it doesn’t seem to need words, which is why we will perform it in a version for viola and piano – the viola being close to the human voice.
We have paired these excerpts with more deeply poetic music including one of Beethoven’s romances, actually written for the violin, but worked into a beautiful viola version here, we’ll be playing Benjamin Britten’s powerful “Lachrymae”, a fantasy on a song by John Dowland, Arvo Pärt’s intoxicating piece “Fratres” and Carl Maria von Weber’s bravura “Andante e rondo ungarese”.
All in all, it will be a colourful, varied and, not least, poetic programme.
