The Browning Society Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony
- 5:00 PM: Choral Evensong in the Abbey Choir at Westminster Abbey.
- 6:00 PM: Wreath Laying and Lecture in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey.
Following these events, there will be a reception at The Abbey Centre, located at 34 Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3BU, which is in close proximity to Westminster Abbey. The charge to attend the reception is £25 per person.
Lecture: Elizabeth Browning Sonnets to Robert Browning by Dr Simon Avery.

Dr. Simon Every is a Reader in Nineteenth-Century Literature and Culture at Westminster University. He holds an MA in Victorian Literature, a PhD in nineteenth-century literature and politics, and a postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in higher education.
Dr. Every’s teaching focuses primarily on nineteenth-century literature and culture, poetry and politics, and queer history and culture.
He has a long-standing interest in nineteenth-century women’s writing, particularly the relationship between women’s writing and politics. He has published monographs and editions on Elizabeth Barrett Browning (2003, 2004, and 2011) and is currently co-editing a new collection of essays on Barrett Browning with Professor Cora Kaplan, exploring the poet’s ambivalence about French politics.
His articles and reviews have appeared in Victorian Poetry, Victorian Review, Women’s Writing, Gothic Studies, Brontë Studies, Journal of Victorian Culture, Journal of Browning Studies, Journal of Literature and Science, and History Workshop Journal.
