Working Life

Not only did our interviews explore the formative memories of childhood and adolescence, but also those of working life. Marylebone is home to many different industries, with medicine being among its most notable due to Harley Street and its reputation as a centre of medical innovation.

 

Jaishree, who has worked at The London Clinic since 1989, began her career in the clinic’s radiology department before moving to the endoscopy department, where she still works today. In sharing the story of her career progression over the years, Jaishree gave insight into the positive workplace culture that encourages long-term staff, as well as the excitement of continual progression and advancement in the field of medicine.

 

Gill and Jeannette grew up in Marylebone and have worked in the local area for all of their adult lives, and both now work in the NHS Marylebone Health Centre. In recounting memories of their respective careers, they both reflect on the value of people and the community of Marylebone.

Jaishree has worked at the London Clinic, a pioneer in medical innovation, for over twenty years. She reflects on the culture of the Clinic and why many members of staff, like herself, are long-term employees.

Today, Gill works in the Marylebone Health Centre, the NHS GP surgery housed in the crypt of the parish church. Gill has always worked in and for her local community.

Jeanette looks back on her working life in Marylebone, from restaurants in Church Street to her position today as practice manager of the health centre. While her roles have changed, one thing has always stayed the same – a motivation to work with the community of Marylebone.

Sheila worked in Marylebone Lane, a street today filled with posh restaurants and hotels. She looks back on the Marylebone Lane she once knew and her time working in 104 Marylebone Lane.
