Model of St Marylebone Parish Church by Edwin. R. Lloyd

This wooden architectural model of St Marylebone Parish Church made in 1869 illustrates in detail the construction and scale of the present church building, which was designed by architect Thomas Hardwick and constructed between 1813-7, with a substantial apse addition and interior redecoration to the designs of architect Thomas Harris in 1884-8. The building was Grade I-listed in 1954. Since then, major works have included the exhumation and conversion of the crypt for use as a NHS health centre and Healing and Counselling Centre in the mid-1980s. An 1869 model of the church building by Edwin R. Lloyd is stored in a glass case and displayed on top of a mahogany table. The case appears to date from the c. 1950s. The table resembles a wash stand, but there are sections of the top that open. The card included with the model states, ‘This model of the Parish Church was made by Edwin R. Lloyd, carpenter, of 29 North Street, Manchester Square in 1869 before the apse was built. Subsequently it sustained much damage and, after being repaired and repainted was placed again in the church in 1958’.
